Huntingdon is a Great Ouse market town with a very long history behind it, best known as the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, and its housing tells that story in layers. Close to the centre you find Victorian and Edwardian brick terraces: steeper pitches, older clay tile and slate, and chimney stacks that still do real work. Head out towards Oxmoor, Hartford and Hinchingbrooke and the picture changes completely. That last detail matters more than most homeowners realise. A street built in the 1970s tends to reach the end of its roof life as a street, not as individual houses.
