Roofers in Wellingborough, NN8
Need a roofer in Wellingborough? Big Red Roofing are a family firm based in Wisbech, and Wellingborough is one of the Northamptonshire towns we travel out to for roof repairs, re-roofs and roofline work. It is a town with two completely different sets of roofs on it: slate over the Victorian ironstone and brick terraces near the centre, and thousands of concrete interlocking tile roofs on dry-verge and dry-ridge systems out at Stanton Cross. They fail in different ways and they get fixed in different ways. Call 01480 775947 and we will book a look.

Wellingborough grew as an industrial town, and the older streets show it in the same way Kettering does: long Victorian terraces in ironstone and red brick, slate above, a party chimney stack sitting on the wall between two houses and a lead valley running down between the slopes. Behind those, inter-war semis in clay tile. Then, out on the east side, Stanton Cross has put thousands of brand new roofs on the map in a decade, and they are a different animal altogether.
Big Red Roofing travel out from Wisbech to work here. Distance is honest and worth saying plainly: Wellingborough is a planned trip for us rather than a five minute hop. What earns the job is knowing what is actually on your roof before we quote it, and in this town that means being comfortable on both sorts.
On the older terraces it is slate and lead. Slates slip because the nails rusted through, so the covering gives way a course at a time. The lead in the valley splits along a fold and water tracks sideways into a ceiling that may not even be yours. The pointing on a hundred-year-old party stack washes out, and the flashing where it passes through the slope wears back. Our roof repairs handle all of that, and we chase the entry point rather than the stain, because on a terrace the two are rarely in the same place.
Stanton Cross and the newer estates need a completely different eye. Those roofs are concrete interlocking tile with dry-verge caps down the gables and a dry-ridge system along the top, held on with clips and screws rather than mortar. A few winters in, caps work loose, clips let go and ridge units lift in a gale. The right answer is to replace the failed parts like for like in the same system, which keeps the ventilation path at the ridge working as it was designed to. Mortaring over a dry-fix roof is the shortcut that creates the next problem, so we replace the system properly instead.
Where an older roof has genuinely gone, we fit full new roofs and re-roofs in slate or tile on a breathable membrane with proper fixings. Flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages across the town are covered by our flat roofing in fibreglass and EPDM rubber. Period stacks get chimney repairs, repointing and fresh leadwork. Rotted timber roofline is replaced with uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering, and our roof cleaning strips the moss off the shaded slopes before it blocks the gutters.
Whichever end of town you are in, the process is the same. We look, we go into the loft where we can, we explain what we find, and you get a written price we hold for 30 days. Read more about how we work, or get in touch for a free quote.
